Teacher Concerns RE: Oct. 20 Announcement

Guarantees that the letter makes:

Rotating, Hybrid Block Schedule:  Basically means different classes meet each day and alternating in some manner

60+ Minute periods/class:

16 credits per year = 8 classes per year:  Unless they change how many credits you get per class

Classes meet > 2.5 times/week:  This eliminates alternating block schedule which would average 2.5 times per week (current status)

Teacher prep = 200 minutes/week:  North teacher prep time cut by 50% (400 minutes to 200 minutes), South reduced by 33% (300 minutes to 200 minutes).

Reduction in prep time will result in teachers teaching additional sections of courses.

Teachers covering more sections will allow for a reduction in full-time teacher positions.

How can we RIF teachers and ask for referendum money at the same time?

Dr. Hauswald has ushered in this type of change before.

The Kokomo board approved the change to 7-period day on May 19th, 2010 and Hauswald was hired on June 3rd, 2010.  On June 14th, 2010 and August 26th, 2010 Kokomo’s school board approved the RIFfing of classified and support staff.  You can search minutes here  but documents are also attached.

He didn’t appear to request the schedule change, but he did oversee the transition to a more efficient high school schedule which ultimately led to the firing of teachers.

Dr. Hauswald’s contract with MCCSC expires in February if not renewed.
